Maria has spent her life surrounded by animals growing up on a farm in the UK having horses, cows, sheep, dogs, cats, and geese as pets. This triggered a passion and career working with many different species across different cities and countries. Maria achieved a Higher National Diploma in Animal Management which opened up the doors for many happy years working with Carnivores and Great Apes at Howletts Wild Animal Park in the UK. An opportunity arose to work with the Primates at a beautiful regional zoo in Australia and she jumped at the chance. Whilst primarily working with the primates Maria also got the opportunity to work with many other species, such as Giraffe, Lions and Tapir. It was the love for training to enrich animals lives which made her further her career by successfully completing a certificate IV in Animal Behaviour & Training with the Delta Institute. In more recent years Maria has worked in shelters with dogs that have many behavioural issues, from minor to serious problems helping them to be the happy, balanced dogs they can be and helping them find loving forever homes. "My biggest love was dogs, and like many of the animals that have touched my life, I felt compelled to work closely with this very intelligent animal. In so many ways, our dogs are as much a benefit to our human lives, as we are theirs, and I feel they deserve a greater understanding of their behaviour and needs. I love it when I can help the relationship between owner and pet grow through knowledge and understanding" - Maria |
